Design Basics:
Cold Process Bar Soap

Learn basic cold process soap design techniques to personalise your soap.

In this 2-hour workshop, discover the art of adding splashes of colour using the cold process method. Here, you will learn how to prepare, mix, and incorporate different soap colourants with beginner-friendly soap designs.

 

Choose from over 30 ingredients across natural herb powders, synthetic mica, and natural oxides. Rest assured that all the necessary ingredients and soap making equipment will be provided, and you will be safely guided through the handling of lye.

 

This workshop is a great way to explore incorporating additional ingredients to elevate and customise the properties and designs of your soaps. We will also share tips based on years of our experience and guide you through design techniques with gentle expertise.

Please ensure that you have basic knowledge of cold process soap making. If you are new to cold process soap making, we highly recommend signing up for our Soap Basics: Cold Process Soap Making before joining this workshop.

What you will learn

  • 4 basic soap design techniques, including a hands-on experience on 1 of the 4 techniques which will be determined on the day of the workshop
     

  • How to adjust your existing soap recipe to control trace 
     

  • How to incorporate and prepare colour with the soap techniques to create your soap design
     

  • How to work with designs that require medium trace

What you will get

  • 1kg of your handmade soap which can be cut down to 10-12 bars
     

  • Class slides containing step-by-step walkthroughs and tips for the soap design techniques learned
     

  • An e-certificate of participation (sent only upon request after workshop is completed)

Please note:

Cold process soaps require a minimum 6-week curing period before they are ready for use.

 

Whether you prefer a hands-on approach or would like our assistance, please keep in mind that soap cutting and stamping can only be done 2-7 days after they're made. You're welcome to cure your soaps at home or in the studio following the cutting process. Soaps can then be picked up via  self-collection or delivery, which we offer to local addresses at a nominal $5 fee. Kindly be aware that any uncollected soap will be donated after 3 months.

Suitable for

Those who have completed any basic cold process bar soap making course. You need not have completed these courses with Sugar & Spice, but proof of course completion is necessary.

Participation is also limited to individuals aged 12 and above as lye is used in this class.
